Tamami was the first female Japanese artist to make woodblock prints of birds. During the 1950s and 1960s she designed more than thirty bird prints in which the birds were depicted in one of two ways. Some designs featured large birds with semi-abstract shapes and false colors while other designs included small birds as black or white silhouettes in a semi-abstract landscape.
